Biography:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘love the dirt in your audio cables. it makes me hungry for earth. not the planet, the substance’

The latest offering by renaissance underachiever John Hall. Resident artist at Barrow Island School, Barrow In Furness, John has been a painter most of his life but lately has written and directed several short films in collaboration with colleagues Shaun Blezard (aka Clutter) and Steve Wharton.

The Cardboard Lung started when John wrote tracks for the soundtrack to " Fires Were Started", a five minute short featuring three pre-war electric bar fires in Cumbrian Village Halls.

Another of these films "Orangehead", (in which a bloke with a giant orange for a head walks into a pub) was nominated for Best Short at the 2005 Salford Commonwealth Film Festival

Other Lung / John Hall activity can be heard on the Manassas albums ‘Live At The Cavendish’ and ‘Vague Recollections On Lost Highway’ and on "Sounds Of The City. Hull and Thereabouts" from Freetownway productions of Hessle.

Car Boot aficionados might like to look out for "Binbag" / "You Bring Out The Spock In Me" by Grandads Don’t Indicate on Mook Records on 7" industrial strength Czech vinyl

Reviews:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘The Cardboard Lung is John Hall from Barrow UK, and has spent most of his life painting, but more recently has started directing various short films. The Cardboard Lung began when John provided the soundtrack to one of these films called ‘Fires were Started.’ The songs on this short EP are rather diverse and sound as if they could have indeed been used in some short film. The first song ‘Prepare for Government’ is a weird piano waltz with a very joyful feeling to it while it sounds like children are singing in the background. ‘Oxo House’ is more of an ambient glitch experimental type of thing, while ‘Derek Might’ again features the piano but also incorporates odd experimental electronics into the mix. The final two songs ‘I’m Afraid’ & ‘Clung’ are more ambient experimental glitch stuff with a slightly noisy feeling to I’m Afraid. Pretty weird stuff, but if this sounds like something that you would enjoy you can check it out here’ - Review of Prepare For Government in Lunar Hypnosis Webzine

‘love the dirt in your audio cables. it makes me hungry for earth. not the planet, the substance’ - mister

‘I so much love this work. The 4 tracks are excellent. It's very nice to discover you.’ - Leonis
