The original Resting Bench was a collaboration between poet Ann Wilson and Clutter’s Shaun Blezard for a mixed media exhibition which was held at The Nest in Barrow-in-Furness from May-July 2006

Ann responded in poetry to lo-fi digital photos of Barrow Island taken by Shaun. The poems were then recorded and added to a soundscape created by Shaun, incorporating field recordings of the island. Shaun also used recording of Ann singing some of the poems, recorded on her mobile phone.

The Resting Bench album - which includes the soundscape, the original recordings of the poems and copies of the exhibition artwork is the first release on Talking Monkey

An improvised remix of The Resting Bench was performed by Clutter and Ann Wilson to launch the exhibition live at The Nest on 20th May 2006. A recording of this can be streamed or downloaded here - a part of the brand new Earth Monkey live archive which also features photos, audio recordings and video clips of Earth Monkey/Talking Monkey events

Review of The Resting Bench Remix Project - Volume 1 on Headphonenaughts Nanolog

‘Simian Shaun has raised the bar with this fantastic collection of remix from a spoken word project [the Resting Bench] that I have been embarrassingly negligent in not checking out.

Basically the original Resting Bench was a collaboration between poet Ann Wilson and Clutter's Shaun Blezard for a mixed media exhibition which was held at The Nest in Barrow-in-Furness from May-July 2006. The resulting tracks were offered out for RE-MIXERS, BOOTLEGGERS, DUB VERSIONISTS, MASH UP MERCHANTS, GLITCHERS, JUNGLISTS, TURNTABLISTS, SONIC ARTISTS, SOUND TERRORISTS AND ANYTHING INBETWEEN!!!! to manipulate / remix... with the final output being this 30 track compilation.

What can I say about the diversity of this compilation other than WOW!!! This is EMP at their very best. Creating something new and something beautiful. Stand out tracks include the contributions from a couple of my favourite EMP artists - Cousin Silas and Adrian Carter... with other excellent tracks from Kristain Diod and Binary Girl.

The consistent use of Ann Wilson's poetry makes this project a cut above... her vocals add an ethereal, other-worldly nature to this first class collection. I would heartly recommend this compilation’

Review on The Internet Archive By Ginger Eades:

It is not often that I have the pleasure of travelling outside of the mundane metropolis of Murfressboro, Tennessee. However, having downloaded and listened to The Resting Bench Remix Project, I feel as though I have just returned from a vacation.

While listening to the complete recordings, I was catapulted from an otherwise insipid Sunday evening to a destination where auditory sensations took over and I found sublime pleasure in the content and its presentation by the artists who helped construct this wonderful collective.

It takes a unique body of work to rise to a height so rich with creativity, while contemporaneously having the ability to plummet one into the depths of a boundless labyrinth of awe-inspiring artistry.

The ebb and flow is a satori sound with a cadance which brought a divine countenance over my face as I sat still with inspiration.

Good work. I will be looking for more like this.
